Creola Ramsey

Creola Ramsey was born in Gee’s Bend in 1955. Creola developed her love of sewing by watching others in the community piece together quilts. Creola’s first sewing project was making baby doll clothes as a young girl. In her early teenage years, Creola pieced together her first quilt, a "Cross Cut Saw," pattern quilt. In school, Creola enjoyed taking Home Economics courses and learned to sew complex clothing patterns. Following school, Creola began working for an Army clothes uniform company, and eventually went on to work for Levi Jeans. Creola retired in 2015 and still enjoys quilting today.

Creola Pettway’s work was featured in the gallery exhibition:

My Way: Gee's Bend Today, Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York, 2025.
