Eddie Mae Pettway
Eddie Mae Pettway was born in Gee’s Bend Alabama, in 1957. Born to Aolar Pettway, a renowned quiltmaker, Eddie Mae was raised in one of one of the most influential quilt making families of Gee’s Bend. Eddie Mae made her first quilt with her mother at the age of 13, developing her lifelong love of sewing at an early age. For 30 years, Eddie Mae worked for American Apparel of Selma, Alabama, a manufacturer of combat and utility uniforms for the United States Armed Forces. Eddie Mae raised two children and has continued her love of quilt making following her retirement. Eddie Mae is best known for her brightly patterned geometric works.
